AWS China recently announced the availability of AWS Organizations in the Beijing and Ningxia regions.
Before we deep dive into the AWS Organizations service, I think it’s worth saying, that the AWS global and AWS China accounts are completely separated and there is no direct connection between AWS global and AWS China. Beijing and Ningxia, both regions are not operated by AWS directly, by local service providers instead. You can read more about this here.
What is AWS Organizations?
AWS Organizations helps you centrally manage your environment as you grow and scale your workloads on AWS China. Whether you are a growing startup or a large enterprise, Organizations helps you centrally manage billing, create new accounts, and categorize your accounts using tags.
What are the benefits?
AWS Organizations enables the following capabilities:
- Consolidate billing across multiple AWS accounts in China
- Management of AWS accounts in China
- Automate AWS account creation in China
- Attach tags to your accounts in China
Why is AWS Organizations so important?
Multi-account environments are a security and compliance best practice. By isolating your workloads or applications into individual accounts, you can control access to specific workloads using accounts and manage all of your accounts using AWS Organizations.
Why should I centrally manage costs and billing?
You can use AWS Organizations to consolidate usage across all accounts in your organization into a single bill. Additionally, you can manage your tax settings across AWS China region accounts in your organization from a central Tax console, and gain insights into your AWS spending across your organization.
When is AWS Organizations available in China?
AWS Organizations is already been released in the China region, so you can start using it right now! AWS Organizations is available in the Beijing and the Ningxia regions.
Only one thing before you start, you must first decide which of your AWS accounts in China will become the master account. You can either create a new AWS account or select an existing one.
What are the requirements?
Essentially the are only 2 requirements:
- Having an AWS account in China
- Having credentials in order to access the account
How much does AWS Organizations cost?
AWS Organizations is free of charge.
How can I create an AWS Organization in China?
There are 4 ways to create an AWS Organization in China:
- AWS China console (see demo below)
- AWS CLI
- AWS SDK
- IaC (Terraform or AWS CloudFormation)
